Faces of Palm Desert with Amy Montague, Ph.D

At Fusion Workplaces, we love getting to know more about our members. This month we are introducing our valued member Amy Montague, Ph.D. Continue reading to find out all about Dr. Montague and what makes her psychology practice so special.

Tell us about yourself and what you do?

My name is Amy Montague, I am a psychologist and have been for 25 years. At the beginning of my career, I was a Child Custody evaluationist working with LA County on child custody cases. Later I started working with insurance companies trying to build my own practice little by little over the years. Most recently, I work with people all over through a health care app – Telehealth. Telehealth is a great option; it allows clients to get the care they need at a safe distance. The next step for me is working to build my in-person clientele as Covid-19 seems to be cooling down a bit.

How did you get started in your industry?

I got started in my industry by taking any and every case that came my way to gain as much experience as I could. There are a lot of people out there that need help – however many psychologists only take cases within their special niche; I on the other hand accepted all the challenging cases people didn’t want to take and that is how I gained most of my experience with many kinds of people, cases, and situations.

What is something about your business that most people do not know?

I offer a cognitive therapy exercise that helps neutralize traumas and dissolve phobias. It is one of my favorite services because these sessions can be life-changing for people! I had a client that had a phobia of elevators – she came to me prior to her trip to Europe and expressed to me that she was terrified of elevators as well as crowded buses and crowds of people – she wanted to enjoy her trip with no worries. So I treated her by walking her through a specific program developed to alleviate the stress she would typically feel when a trigger would present itself and she was on her way – a month later I receive a letter from her, thanking me for all I did; she was able to enjoy her trip worry free! That’s why I love what I do, I am able to help change people’s lives for the better.

Where do you see your business in 5 years?

Thriving and growing. I am trying to build a name for myself down here in the Desert. I am from the OC area so I am pretty much starting all over again but I couldn’t be more excited for the adventure.

Other than work, what are you passionate about?

I have a strong passion for helping others – I feel that’s what has drawn me into my career path, is my big heart, and want to help everyone. I love getting to know people and understanding human nature. It makes me great at what I do.

What types of activities or hobbies do you enjoy outside of work?

I love relaxing and watching TV – Gracie & Frankie is one of my favorites to watch. Getting into nature is a happy place for me. Anywhere near the ocean brings me peace and joy so I love doing all that. I used to do a lot of aerobics – I need to get back on that, but I just love to be active and do something fun.
