Faces of Palm Desert with Bruce Haulley, CCIM of Marcus and Millichap

One of the best parts of our community at Fusion Workplaces is getting to know our members. We enjoy being able to learn more about what everyone does not just on a professional level, but on a personal one as well. We recently had the chance to learn more about Bruce Haulley and his company and we hope you enjoy getting to learn more about Bruce as well – Take a look!

Tell us about your company and what you do?

I work in the field of commercial real estate (“CRE”). That means meeting people who own CRE, building a relationship with them, giving them advice from time to time, and occasionally forming a representation agreement to sell their property. Relationships stretch over years, and a single transaction often takes six to nine months.

How did you get started in your industry?

I used to own my own company, with twenty-five employees, manufacturing, sales, and service functions. I transitioned into CRE and found a field I liked a lot, without the administrative responsibilities of running a company. I was immediately successful in CRE and used my commissions to buy property for myself. The skills I learned as a business owner and manager have been critical in CRE.

What is something about your business that most people do not know?

Not generally known: CRE brokerage is hard. I’ve never sold a single-family home (I tell people I’m not nice enough to sell homes), which has its own difficulties. But CRE is challenging because the personalities are big and strong. (Think Donald Trump). I have a background in economics and financial analysis, so deals can get very complex. One has to be patient, knowledgeable, and decisive.

Where do you see your business in 5 years?

I’ll own CRE and manage it myself. I like property, I like neighborhoods, and I like tenants. There’s no retirement that I like better than doing what I do.

Tell me about yourself?

I’m an eccentric character, which is perfect for this business. I’ve lived in Asia for six years, working for international organizations and have traveled to 45 countries as a tourist. I also enjoy writing, reading, and am active in community affairs.

Other than work, what are you passionate about?

I own a motorcycle. I like camping as well as enjoy outdoor activities.

Why did you choose Fusion Workplaces and how has working here helped your business?

My manager actually chose Fusion, without me knowing. He had a reason for choosing it, but never shared it with me. But I do like working here and recommend it highly!
