Why you should visit Palm Springs this summer

Palm Springs has long been a mecca for the rich and famous. From luxury spas to fine dining, this desert jewel has it all.

Living in the desert definitely has its perks. In the summertime, it’s even cooler to visit Palm Springs because that’s when the crowds are smallest, so you’ll always get choice parking spaces, and the wait time at top restaurants won’t be quite so tedious on a Saturday night.

In case you don’t know about them already, here are a few great reasons to visit Palm Springs this summer:

The deals are everywhere

Summer is low season in Palm Springs, so you’ll find plenty of deals on the go at the high-end hotels and resorts in the area. You’ll be able to get discounts on golfing, and all-inclusive packages that include dinner and spa services, all for a much better price than you’d find in the winter. In some cases, the rates might be discounted as much as 50 percent, and there are plenty of options to choose from.

Shopping galore

It might be blistering hot outside, but the misters keep you cool as you walk down the street and there is great air conditioning everywhere you go. You’ll find all kinds of high-end retail at El Paseo, often referred to as the Rodeo Drive of Palm Springs. Or, if you prefer, you can visit Desert Hills Premium Outlets for 150 stores full of discounted designer goods.

COD Street Fair

Saturday and Sunday, head down to the College of the Desert for the COD Street Fair. It’s got local vendors and craftspeople selling their wares, designer goods, art, sculpture, music, and an awesome food court where you’ll find lots of yummy street food, date shakes, and more. s

Pool party!

Even if you’re not staying the night, you can party it up like a Hollywood mogul as you lounge poolside at places like The Saguaro Hotel & Pool, where you can book a cabana, have lunch, or just laze the day away between dips with a refreshing drink in your hand. The Ace Hotel Swim Club provides access to their pool and hot tub from 6 am to 2 am. Swim club passes are available for purchase at the hotel.

Visit the Moorten Botanical Garden and Cactarium

No matter how much of a cactus expert you are, we can pretty much guarantee you’ve never seen as many varieties of cactus as you will at the Moorten Botanical Garden. Here, you’ll see more than 3,000 types of cacti and other desert plants. Docents are on hand to give tours, and it’s all included with your $5 admission.

Take the tramway up to San Jacinto State Park

Get high above the desert floor and take in the breathtaking views from the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, a slowly rotating tram that gives you unparalleled views of the terrain below. At the top, grab a bite at one of the restaurants, browse the natural history museum, check out one of the documentary theaters, or go for a hike on 50 miles of trails.
